I was very blessed to be a part of a CSI team that traveled to Northern Ireland. Besides the spiritual growth and stretching that takes place on a mission trip, I realized the importance of providing a spiritual foundation for my children. Over and over again I could see the lack of any spiritual foundation for the children we met. I did not meet any parents, but could see the absence of a basic spiritual foundation in all the youth that we spent time with. I had several discussions with nationals, our cultural mediator, and our team members about the obvious lack of Christ or His teachings. It was very sobering.
I now have a new motivation for building a better foundation for the treasures I keep watch over. I think Matthew 7 is especially fitting.
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash." - Matthew 7:24-27
